Holly-Marie Cato

Why subscribe to Newsletters?

Well, occasionally the ‘special rewards’ offered are actually pretty good, as some of subscribers to the Clerkenwell Photography Competition Newsletter discovered when they had the opportunity to listen to award-winning photographer and filmmaker Holly-Marie Cato. They joined a talk organised by our editor, Chris Walker, for advertising agency, AML.

Blending a passion for travel, community and street photography, Cato seeks out authentic stories across the world and in her city of London.

Always leading from a human perspective, she places a higher value in sharing the extraordinary stories of the people she meets. Her work has seen her travel the globe from Nicaragua to Mumbai, forging connections with grass roots based charities, to partnering with international brands.

Her ability to connect with people extends beyond the camera, to hosting sold out workshops and talks on the art of storytelling to photography. When she’s not travelling, you can find Cato on the streets of London documenting the city, and was recently included in the award winning ‘Portrait of Britain’ exhibition.

Holly walked us through her street photography as she captures the layers and energy of a city either through commissions in New York, or during London Carnival and discussed her study into the female presence and organizational role in protests. From Black Lives Matter rallies to courageous Saudi women, Cato’s dive into human perspective felt gracious, honest, and never failed to place dignity on the subject.

Many thanks to one of our sponsors, Peter Bailey, for helping to set up the talk.

We may well have other treats like this, so why not subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date.
